Does KDE support any keyboard shortcut to show the desktop or to minimize
all windows? I've searched for it and I failed to find it.

Thanks for the help,

In Microsoft Windows, it is WindowsKey/D.

Have you tried that?

But the Bush apologists hope that you won't remember all that. And they
also have a theory, which I've been hearing more and more - namely,
that President Obama, though not yet in office or even elected, caused the
2008 slump. You see, people were worried in advance about his future
policies, and that's what caused the economy to tank. Seriously.

Not necessarily. Would be easier for former Windows users to
use the same key, as GNOME does.

(According to Google it's Ctrl-F12 on KDE 4)

During my search I've also stumbled on that info but since it didn't
worked I suspected that something wasn't working properly. After a bit of
digging I've found this:

That's for hiding/showing the dashboard (aka panel).

By default, there is no key assigned to show the desktop. If you want
one, run systemsettings, select keyboard & mouse, then then the
global keyboard shortcuts. Use the dropdown box for kde component to
select kwin. Enter "show" (without the quotes) in the search.
Click on Show Desktop. Select the radio button for custom. Click
on the None button, and enter the keyboard combo you want to use.
Click on apply in the bottom right, and close systemsettings.

Not quite. The plasma dashboard is KDE4's desktop, while a panel is a
toolbox where you can place widgets, which by default it comes with the K
menu, the task manager and the system tray. Taken from the following URL:

http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.0/desktop.php

Plasma is KDE's new desktop shell

Plasma's dashboard view replaces the old "Show Desktop"
feature. Enabling the dashboard hides all windows and puts the widgets in
front of them.

That's odd. The "Press CONTROL+F12 to show the dashboard view" feature is
mentioned in a hand full of places in KDE's site. What forced the KDE
team to abandon the ctrl+F12 keyboard shortcut?

Who knows? I think though that if you read the thread carefully
Kenny may be implying that since KDE/Gnome do everything they can to
clone Windows interface it may well be that this behavior
is also implemented as it is in Windows.

Yes, give the man a cigar!

Clearly, corporate America, intent on reducing computer usage/programming
down to the point where it can be performed by people with 8th grade
educations, doesn't want more than one user interface floating around. You
know, training costs, and all that.

So, it was clear to me, from the outset of KDE/Gnome, that the intent was to
clone Windows. So, yes, it makes perfect sense for the "hot keys" to be the
same, too, to as great a degree as is possible.

It's cuz you didn't look fer crap.

For KDE 3.5, the functions already exist, but you gotta add the panel icon.

Keyboard:
Actions > Settings > Regional & Accessability > Keyboard Shortcuts >
Panel > Toggle Showing Desktop = Alt+Ctrl+D

Panel Icon:
Right click on panel > Add Applet to panel... > Show desktop

For KDE 4, yer on yer own. Anyway, thanks for the push. I always
wondered and never knew. Now we both know. ;)
